Nice, the capital of the Côte d'Azur
Built between the sea and the mountains, around one of the most beautiful bays in the world, the Bay of Angels, Nice is today the fifth largest city in France.
The city definitively opened up to the world in the second half of the 19th century, with the influx of aristocrats and leaders from all over Europe, seduced by the beauty and climate of the small Mediterranean town it was then. After becoming French in 1860, Nice is proud to show visitors its distinct identity, forged by a history that dates back to the time of the Nikaia before the Romans.
The alleyways of Nice's old quarter will transport you far from Provence to somewhere in Italy. On the Place Garibaldi, with its Turin-like appearance, the statue of the hero of modern Italy stands out imposingly.
