Gran Canaria Island Council language grant 2026-2027

We'll advise you, design your plan, and assess your chances. Up to €840 in eligible subsidies!

Applications accepted until October 31, 2026

Tell us your goal and we'll tell you how to achieve it with the help of the Cabildo

The Gran Canaria Island Council has opened its call for applications for language study grants for the island's working population. You can apply for language training, to prepare for an official exam, or to take the exam itself. At Language Campus, we do all three.

We don't sell a one-size-fits-all course.
Everyone starts from a different point and is looking for something different: some need fluency for work, others need to certify a specific level, and still others need to pick up the language from scratch. Call us, tell us your goal, and we'll prepare a specific plan to help you achieve it.

Two actions, two grants.
Action 1 — Training: up to €600, including preparation for official exams.
Action 2 — Official exam: up to €240 for the language accreditation test.
You can apply for one or both, up to a maximum of €840.

The amounts indicated are the maximum amounts stipulated in the call for proposals. The awarding of these funds is the sole responsibility of the Gran Canaria Island Council and is subject to compliance with the requirements and the availability of funds.

Deadline: 31/10/2026 · May close earlier if credit is exhausted

A plan designed for your goal

Not everyone needs the same thing. That's why the first step isn't choosing a course, but telling us what you want to achieve.

– We'll talk to you: what you do for a living, why you need the language, how much time you have, and your target timeframe.

– We'll assess your current level free of charge to determine your starting point. This information is also essential for your application to the Island Council.

– We'll suggest a path for you: general training, specific exam preparation, the official exam, or a combination of all three. And we'll tell you which grant option best suits each part.

– Important: the grant does not cover training provided by official public language schools. It does cover training at centers like ours.

First we listen

Before we make any suggestions, we need to know why you need the language and what your timeframe is. The plan will be developed based on that information, not on a catalog.

Flexible formats

Small groups, individual classes, conversation, or intensive exam preparation. In-person at Mesa y López or online; both options are accepted by the call for applications.

Qualified teaching staff

More than 40 certified teachers with real experience in teaching languages to adults.

Correct documentation

We issue the invoice or quote with language, CEFR level, modality and CIF: exactly the data required by the Cabildo's call for proposals.

Preparation for official exams

Action 1 of the program specifically includes preparation for official exams, not just general courses. If your goal is to certify a level, you can use this support to prepare thoroughly before taking the exam.

– Specific preparation: we work on the actual exam format, time management, and the four skills the exam assesses.

– With the same teachers who will see you on exam day, at the same center.

– Tailored to your starting point and the level you want to certify, in the format and intensity that best suits you.

We work with English, German, French, Spanish and other languages, at all levels of the Common European Framework of Reference, with face-to-face training at our center in Mesa y López — C/ República Dominicana, 17, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and also online.

If you don't know your level, we'll tell you for free. It's important: the application to the Cabildo must specify the language and CEFR level, so it's best to be clear about this before submitting it.

Once we know your starting level and your goal, we will propose the option that best fits your availability and the deadlines of the call for applications.

Official Oxford Test of English exam

We are an authorized Oxford Test of English examination center in Gran Canaria. The exam is recognized by the University of Oxford and assesses the four skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing), which is exactly what Action 2 of the call for applications requires.

– Exams are held every Friday at our center on Mesa y López. They last two hours.

– Levels A1 to C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

– You don't need to prepare with us to take the exam here. If you already have the required level, you can apply for financial aid just for the exam.

– Flexibility: you can take the entire test or individual modules, and repeat any module to improve your score. Please note that, to qualify for the grant, the exam must cover all four skills.

We'll explain it to you and help you with the application

How the Cabildo's aid works, step by step

The grant is awarded and managed by the Gran Canaria Island Council. Language Campus does not participate in the awarding process: we simply advise you on what you should apply for and provide you with an invoice or quote containing all the information required by the call for proposals.

The tabs to the side provide a summary of what is subsidized, who can apply, how to apply, and the two payment methods available. If you'd prefer to discuss it over the phone, write to us and we'll call you.

What does the Cabildo subsidize?

The call for proposals includes two independent actions, which you can apply for separately or together:

Action 1 — Training: up to €600

  • Courses in any language, including sign language
  • Face-to-face, online or hybrid format
  • Also, preparation for official exams

Action 2 — Official exam: up to €240

  • Official language accreditation test according to the CEFR
  • You must assess the four skills: reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression, and oral expression.
  • Levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 or C2

Applying for both, the maximum combined amount is €840. Training and exams taken at official public language teaching centers are not eligible for funding.

Not sure which one is right for you? Call us and we'll help you choose based on your goals.

Maximum amounts stipulated in the call for proposals. The award depends on the Gran Canaria Island Council.

Who can apply for it

The aid is aimed at the working population of Gran Canaria. These are the requirements outlined in the call for applications:

  • Being a resident of the island of Gran Canaria
  • Be at least 16 years old and no older than 65
  • To be employed, or unemployed and registered as a job seeker
  • Be up to date with tax and social security obligations

Employees of Public Administrations and entities of the institutional public sector are excluded

If you were already a beneficiary in the 2025 call for applications, you can reapply as long as the language and CEFR level you were already subsidized for are not the same as those you received funding for. In other words, if you received funding for English B1 last year, this year you can apply for B2 or another language.

How to apply for the grant

The application is submitted to the Gran Canaria Island Council, preferably through its online portal. This is the process:

1. Talk to us. We'll help you decide which action to request (training, exam, or both), which level to indicate, and which payment method best suits you.

2. We will issue you the invoice or quote with the language, CEFR level, modality, amount and our CIF: exactly the data required by the call for applications.

3. Gather the required documentation: Application Annex I, third-party registration form with your IBAN, National Identity Document (DNI) or Foreigner's Identity Number (NIE), proof of residence in Gran Canaria, and employment history report or SCE registration certificate. These documents must be less than fifteen calendar days old when submitting the application.

4. Submit the application through the Cabildo's electronic office (sede.grancanaria.com) or at the Corporation's General Registry. You can submit up to two applications: one joint application for both shares, or one for each share.

Please note regarding payment: cash payments are not accepted. Payment must be made by bank transfer, card, or any other electronic means that allows identification of the sender, recipient, and amount.

Deadline: until October 31, 2026.Applications are processed in order of date and time of registration, and the deadline may close earlier if the available funds are exhausted.

Do I have to pay in advance?

It depends on the option you choose. The call for applications includes two, and this is one of the things you should decide carefully:

Payment prior to application:
You pay for the course or exam yourself and then submit the invoice and proof of payment. The expense must have been paid between January 1 and October 31, 2026.

Payment after the award:
You submit a budget instead of an invoice and payment is made later, with a deadline of April 30, 2027. To qualify for this option, the planned start date must be at least three months after the submission of the application, with some exceptions provided for in the terms and conditions.

Tell us when you want to start and we'll tell you which option suits you best, and we'll prepare the corresponding documents. The training and exam must be completed between January 1, 2026, and April 30, 2027.

How much can I get subsidized exactly?

The call sets a maximum of €600 for training (Action 1) and €240 for the official exam (Action 2), up to a total of €840.

The specific amount corresponds to the actual expenditure, without exceeding these limits. The granting of the grant and the final amount are decided by the Gran Canaria Island Council based on compliance with the requirements and the availability of funds.

Yes. They are two separate actions and you can apply for both, either in one joint application or in two separate ones.

This is precisely the scenario that best suits us: training or preparation falls under Action 1 and the official Oxford exam under Action 2. All in the same center and with a single point of contact.

Only if you choose the prepayment. In the post-award payment , you submit a quote and pay later, with a deadline of April 30, 2027.

This second option requires that the planned start date be at least three months after the application. Tell us when you want to start and we'll tell you which option is best for you. Cash payments are not accepted under any circumstances.

Yes, provided that the language and CEFR level of the action that you already received funding for in 2025 do not coincide.

For example: if last year you were granted it for English B1, this year you can apply for it for B2, or for a different language.

We will issue you the invoice (prepayment method) or the quote (post-payment method), specifying language, CEFR level, training modality, amount, dates and our VAT number.

Later, to justify the aid, we also provide you with the certificate of attendance for the training or the certificate of completion of the official exam.
