Duration and structure

About the CCSE test:

• The exam consists of 25 questions.

• The results are available approximately 20 days later .

• If it is suspended, the second opportunity must be within the following 6 months .

• 45 minutes duration. In justified cases (e.g., visual impairment or illiterate persons) an additional 50% of time may be granted if properly requested

• Right to two calls (within the following 6 months).

• Access to a free official manual and a mobile application for practice (provided by the Cervantes Institute) .

What is the CCSE test for Spanish nationality?

The CCSE test ( Constitutional and Sociocultural Knowledge of Spain ) assesses basic knowledge about the Spanish Constitution, the organization of the State and the social and cultural reality of the country.

Passing this exam is mandatory for most people applying for Spanish nationality , along with other requirements established by current regulations.

Who should take the CCSE exam?

The CCSE test is aimed at people who wish to obtain Spanish nationality and

  • People applying for Spanish nationality by residence

  • Persons not exempt according to current regulations

What is the CCSE exam like?

The CCSE exam is an objective multiple-choice test.

Format and punctuation:

  • 25 closed-ended questions
  • Modes: multiple choice (three options) and true or false
  • Each correct answer is worth one point
  • Incorrect answers do not deduct points
  • To pass, you need at least 15 correct answers (60%)

Duration:

  • 45 minutes

Syllabus:

  • Government, legislation and citizen participation in Spain (60%)
  • Spanish culture, history and society (40%)

Official CCSE exam procedure

Registration and Payment:
Registration is done through the official website of the Instituto Cervantes . The fee entitles you to take the exam a maximum of two times, provided that the second attempt is within six months of the first and at the same exam center.

Preparation:
The Cervantes Institute publishes a free official manual that includes all possible questions for each year. It also offers an official mobile app for practicing before the exam.

Taking the test:
On the day of the exam, it is mandatory to present your NIE (Foreigner Identification Number), passport, IC registration receipt, and the center's call notification.

Exception: only for EU members (national identity document from the country of origin).

Results:
Approximately 20 days after the test, the Instituto Cervantes publishes the results. If the result is PASS, an electronic certificate valid for four years is issued.
